She hated her four sisters for draining funds away from her, and she hated herself for resenting them. She would throw herself around her room, tossing pillows and flopping on her bed with great sighs, in agony over not getting her desired doll or not being able to watch “Spin and Marty” since they had no television, all the while flagellating herself that she even ad a room all to herself. But when Vianne quietly reminded herself of this when she was especially bitter, it only made her hate herself all the more for feeling the way she did- that they were poor. As her mother never tired of pointing out, there were always people far worse off than themselves. They didn’t go hungry, but her dreams were often crushed. ![]()
